What we do in Somatic Experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing® (SE), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a body-based approach to trauma healing that recognises how the nervous system can become stuck in survival responses when we’re overwhelmed and unable to complete them.

Dr Levine, a biophysicist and psychologist, developed SE after decades of studying stress physiology, trauma, and animal behaviour. He noticed that wild animals, though frequently threatened, rarely develop trauma—because they naturally complete their fight, flight, or freeze responses. Drawing from this insight, he created a method to help humans reconnect with the body’s innate capacity to regulate, restore, and return to a felt sense of safety.

SE works with your body’s innate intelligence and capacity to heal and supports the gentle completion of interrupted fight, flight, or freeze responses—helping your nervous system return to balance, regulation, and a sense of safety.

“Our bodies have a natural capacity for healing. All we need to do is learn to listen and trust in its wisdom.” Dr Peter A Levine

Together, we bring awareness to your nervous system’s rhythms and responses—tracking subtle body sensations and supporting small, manageable shifts. Through tiny doses of activation (called “titration”) and cycles of settling (“pendulation”), we create space for trapped survival energy to discharge safely and gradually.

Somatic Experiencing meets you where you are. It works at your body’s pace and supports integration from the inside out—helping you reclaim a sense of safety, choice, and connection.
